HIST696: An Introduction to History and New Media (affectionately known as “Clio 1”) is a course for graduate students at George Mason University.
In this course, we will overview the field of digital history through readings and practicum sessions. The course is divided into three phases, which we’re calling Digital History 1.0-3.0. They don’t quite corrrespond to Web 1.0-3.0, but they’re related.
You’ll be writing a lot on the web, constructing your own website, and practicing how digital history projects get done.
In other words, our core objectives are these:
- Survey the many facets of digital history (through readings)
- Create web-based digital history analysis
- Practice the nuts and bolts of digital history projects from start to finish
